The MV-22B Osprey first deployed in 2007. This happens because the nacelles rotate forward 90 degrees for horizontal flight. Once airborne, the aircraft converts into a turboprop airplane. It will replace the Marine Corps' aged fleet of CH-46E and CH-53D medium lift helicopters. The V-22 Osprey is a multi-engine, dual-piloted, self-deployable, medium lift, vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) tilt-rotor aircraft designed for combat, combat support, combat service support, and Special Operations missions worldwide. With the speed and range of a turboprop, the MV-22 Osprey has excellent maneuverability and the ability to carry 24 Marine combat troops twice as fast and five times farther than previous helicopters, enhancing Marine assault operations. From their signature “Bomb Burst” maneuver at terminal velocity to mentoring and sharing experiences with a classroom in middle America, members of the Demonstration Team are proud to display world-class performances with unparalleled professionalism to the American public.
